Cancer Research Laboratories

Overview

 
The University of Newcastle School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy (SBSP) Cancer Research Theme includes more than 50 researchers working on cancers including haematological, gynaecological, breast, skin and brain tumours. Our diverse expertise includes in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical cancer models, culture and analysis of primary patient samples, high-throughput drug screening, flow cytometry, immunoblotting, and molecular profiling techniques (genetics, epigenetics, proteomics). We work in close partnership with clinicians and industry collaborators. Equipment within the Cancer Research Laboratories is housed in a certified PC2 facility, including dedicated pre-PCR and cell culture laboratories.

- Thermal cyclers (pre- and post-PCR)
- Bravo NGS liquid handling robotic platform
- TapeStation electrophoresis platform
- Class II Biosafety Cabinets for mammalian cell culture
- GelCount instrument for imaging and analysis of cell colonies and organoids
- DNA Gel Equipment
- Data Analysis computers
Imagers (e.g. Cell2Imager DUOS 2, LI-COR Odyssey M)
- Plate Readers (e.g. FLUOstar OMEGA, FLUOstar OPTIMA, SpectraMAX)
- Shared workspaces (e.g. dissection rooms, histology suite, western blotting spaces)
